- 8 million disposable
nappies are thrown away in Britain EVERY DAY.
- A baby will produce
over 1 ton of disposable nappy waste by the time she is potty trained.
- 4.5% of all household
waste is disposable nappy, and disposable nappies account for 50% of
waste in households with one baby - one bin bag of disposable nappies
one bin bag of the rest of the rubbish.
- Disposable nappies
are not that disposable either - estimates range from 100 to 500 years
for a nappy to degrade in a landfill site . 'Disposable' nappies are
not just a waste disposal issue.
- And it costs
us a lot of money to dispose of disposable nappies - in Bradford it
costs the council 800 000 pounds a year.
- Even with production
and washing, real nappies are better for the environment and using a
nappy laundry is even better.
